The C.M. Newton Classic is more than just a basketball game; it is a tribute to a man who made significant strides in integrating inter-collegiate athletics. C.M. Newton's legacy is one of courage, vision, and relentless dedication to equality and inclusion in sports. In honor of his groundbreaking work, Knight Eady proudly donated $2,500 to four individual nonprofits that are doing compelling work in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) space. The recipients this past year were Diane's Heart, Better Basics, The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama, and Momentum Leaders. Each of these organizations embodies the spirit of Newton's legacy, working tirelessly to promote DEI in various sectors of society.
2. Corporate Challenge Birmingham
The Corporate Challenge Birmingham brought together businesses from across the city for a day of friendly competition and team-building. This event was particularly impactful, raising almost $40,000 for Children's of Alabama. The funds are being used to support essential healthcare services for children, highlighting how corporate involvement can drive positive change and benefit the community’s most vulnerable members.
3. Corporate Challenge Chattanooga
Following the success in Birmingham, the Corporate Challenge Chattanooga replicated this model, engaging local businesses in spirited competition. This event raised $10,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chattanooga, an organization dedicated to mentoring and empowering youth. Through this support, we are helping to foster positive relationships and provide guidance to young people in the Chattanooga area.
The Camellia Cup, a premier golf tournament, brought together amateur and professional golfers for a day on the greens. Beyond the love of the game, participants were motivated by the opportunity to contribute to charitable causes. This year, the event raised $10,000 for the Zero Zero Foundation, an organization that leverages sport to provide early intervention for at-risk youth.
