Say hello to our Fall 2020 interns! Representing schools from all across the state, we are excited to have this talented group with us this semester. Our interns are an integral part of our staff, and we are thrilled to have these five bringing their unique talent and experience to the table (or google hangouts meeting) and helping us with our strategy and creative this fall. Learn more about each of our interns below!
Hello! My name is Amanda Warren, and I am a strategy intern with Knight Eady this fall! I am currently a junior at Auburn University, War Eagle forever, studying Public Relations and Business. I grew up in Dallas, Texas, so Auburn feels like a second home for me. Some fun facts about me are that last summer, I studied abroad in Madrid, which was an incredible experience, and Dirk Nowitzki is my favorite athlete of all time.
Something that I’ve enjoyed learning about with my internship so far is developing and collaborating with the team on marketing strategies for different accounts. Even amidst a pandemic, I like the challenge of adapting and thinking outside the box on how to engage people despite the obvious social restrictions.
My favorite class that I have taken at Auburn so far has been Sports Rhetoric with Dr. Milford. We were able to dive in and analyze how sport is often the physical manifestation of broader social and political issues. We also discussed the significant challenges and themes we see changing in sports right now and heard from several interesting speakers like the USA handball team captain and Auburn’s AD, Allen Greene.
Sports have a profound ability to bring people together. Yes, I can talk about how I grew up a sports fan and played almost every sport out there and how I am competitive, but it is the moments that transcend the athletic achievements that keep me coming back for more. These are moments like when a walk-on player receives a scholarship, a girl from Compton wins her 23rd grand slam title while pregnant or the greatest player of all-time winning the NBA finals on Father’s Day. Sports combine an expression of human emotions, unclear outcomes, personal narratives and competition into a commodity that has consumed our culture. Sports produce stories and emotions that I want to be a part of telling and cultivating.
Hello! My name is Ahriana Coleman, but I prefer to go by just Ahri. Growing up, both of my parents were in the military, so I moved quite a bit. Although I don’t have a true “hometown,” I was born in Shreveport, Louisiana. I am currently a Junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Go Blazers!, majoring in marketing and minoring in psychology. My favorite class at the moment that applies to my major/industry would be Social Media Marketing. Social media is a powerful platform and medium that I believe is completely changing, in a great way, the world of marketing. However, I am most interested in the strategy and events side of marketing sports.
Upon graduation, I hope to pursue a career in sports marketing and event planning in collegiate or professional sports leagues. Growing up, I ran track, which started my love for sports from a young age. I ran from elementary school up until my junior year of high school when I broke my toe and ended my running career. Sports, track specifically, taught me how to be 100 percent dedicated to something and learn how to push myself to places I never thought I could go. My middle school coach once told me, “Nobody remembers how you start your race, but everybody remembers how you finish.” From that day forward, it has been my life quote to always give my all in anything that I do.
Hey, hi, hello, I’m Courtney or better known as Court for short! I am a lover of all things Aubie(my golden retriever), fashion, family, Dansby Swanson and sports. Growing up in Leesburg, Alabama, I spent most of my childhood on what we are most known for, Weiss Lake (the best place in the world if you ask me). From my childhood dreams of becoming a concession stand worker or a Disney princess, I have found a happy medium in marketing, which I am currently studying at Jacksonville State University (Go Cocks!).
One powerful thing about the industry and Knight Eady that drew me in was its collaboration of marketing and passion through a strong belief in sports and its power to change lives. From the time I could walk, my parents had me running bases, and in high school, the pom-poms got traded for cleats, and the cleats got traded for knee pads. Being a three-sport athlete shaped me into the person I am today and the collegiate athlete I would become. During college, I was fortunate enough to continue my cheerleading career at the collegiate level, which triggered my strong passion and belief in sports. I’ve learned that you can’t rise without falling, and you can’t let the fear of striking you out keep you from playing the game. Sports gave me a reason to rise when I didn’t know how, and that is why I believe in sports and love it. In just three weeks as a strategy/marketing intern, I have applied professional marketing skills to clients and their platforms, created social content and gained valuable relationships. As I look forward to the upcoming weeks as an intern at Knight Eady, I can’t help but feel so honored for this opportunity.
John “JJ” Jacobs
My name is John Jacobs, IV., but I also go by JJ. I was born in Washington, D.C. and lived there for a couple of years before moving to Albany, GA. I am a senior at Birmingham-Southern College, majoring in Media and Film, and I plan to pursue a career in Sports Media when I graduate. I am interested in the industry’s creative side including, photography, video production, graphic design and event presentation.
I believe in sports because sports have given me the opportunity to reach my personal goals, travel across the country and be a valuable team member. It inspires me to do better, be a better person and reach my goals. Fun facts about me are that I love going to concerts, traveling, and I’m a sneakerhead. (Jordans, Nike, Yeezys, you name it.)
I am Garren Hayes! I have moved all over, but I would call Huntsville, AL home. After a successful year at the Savannah College of Art and Design, I decided to move back home and play soccer at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where I am currently finishing my Bachelor of Arts. As a creative intern at Knight Eady, I love to provide designs that have an impact. What has always attracted me to designing was the idea that I could provide art that each individual could connect with differently. In my time at KE, I am looking forward to further developing my knowledge of branding. Creating cohesive work throughout an entire brand so that every design is unique, yet connected, is something I have never had to do before.
I have played sports my entire life. Most of my life lessons, discipline, and work ethic have come from my soccer career. Some of my best moments and toughest decisions have come from being an athlete. This is why I believe in sports. Sports provide an outlet for everyone of all types to develop themselves from an early age. They teach young people how to overcome adversity and work hard for a goal. Without sports, I would have never had the ambition to become a designer, and I would have never found my place at Knight Eady!
