Knight Eady and Samford University partner on administrative search and marketing campaign
Knight Eady and Samford University’s athletics department announced a new partnership in a joint release Monday. The Birmingham-based sports marketing and event management company began a partnership with the athletic department in January of this year to be a part of the administrative search team to hire an Associate AD for Marketing and Strategic Communications.
Michael Eady, Chief Marketing Officer at Knight Eady, and Katie Jernigan, Director of Communications at Knight Eady, led the team in the nationwide search process. The project included the recruitment of the candidate pool, interview and formal hiring process. The search recently concluded with the official hiring of Kevin Young.
“Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with him to our staff,” Samford Athletic Director Martin Newton said. “His addition, along with our partnership with Knight Eady will allow us to develop the most engaged and passionate fan base in the Southern Conference. This will also allow us to tell our Samford athletics story, develop our brand and enhance our fan experience while finding new ways to generate revenue.”
Young comes to Samford from Austin Peay where he served as Senior Director of Marketing and Digital Media since July of 2017. Prior to his last position, he worked at Austin Peay as the Athletics Communications Manager.
Young served as the Sports Information Director at Texas A&M-Commerce from August of 2014 to July of 2016. Prior to that, he was the Director of Media Relations at Western Carolina University from July of 2013 to August of 2014.
He was the Assistant Sports Information Director at Wofford from September of 2010 to May of 2013. Young began his full-time career in college athletics as the Sports Information Director at Lees-McRae College, beginning in August of 2008.
He graduated from Anderson University in 2008 with a degree in Communications with a Concentration in Public Relations/Marketing. While a student and Anderson, Young worked in sports information, marketing and game operations.
“Knight Eady has worked with Samford University for several years on various events, and it was an honor to work with the leadership in the Athletic Department on this search project,” remarked Eady. “Samford University is a fantastic institution and we are thrilled with the opportunity the hiring of Kevin Young provides to continue to elevate the brand of Samford University athletics.”
Moving forward, Knight Eady will consult with Young’s team at Samford on a marketing and communications campaign for the 2018-2019 academic year. Knight Eady will provide research, strategy and branding support for a local campaign to promote Samford Athletics. The full campaign will be released in late summer of this year.
“I am honored and humbled to join the respected Samford athletics staff,” Young said. “I’d like to thank Martin Newton, Michael Eady and the search committee for putting their faith and trust in me to serve this department and the Bulldog student-athletes. We’ll work hard and be intentional telling the Samford athletics story, growing the already well respected Bulldog brand and developing one of the most passionate fan bases in the Southern Conference.”
